INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

 

"On the trail of the colonial legacy of music"
Dissertations about syncretism and intercultural dialogue.

 

 

            The symposium aims to address this issue in the broad scope of the various cultural traditions, contexts and historical times, and provides an opportunity for academics to participate in the discussion of the following topics: cultural dialogues in the colonial era, circulation, transfer and appropriation of ideas, codes, aesthetics, styles, techniques, musical practices and ideologies; music and artistic or cultural ruptures; translation and cultural representation; migration, exile, and travel; identity, otherness, nationalism and exoticism; culture, society and politics; interdisciplinary studies: visual arts, theater, literature, philosophy, history, sociology and cultural anthropology; heritage and collections; institutional policies for religion, artistic and cultural exchange between India and Europe; discursive strategies in the relationship between music, religion and other arts; creation and intercultural dialogue.

  • Opening Conference:  "On the trail of the legacy of colonial music"

 

 

 

Thuesday 23th. of Febraury  /  Europa and America.

     

  • Lecture 1 - Dialogues between Portugal and Brasil; the legacy of the portuguese sound.

 

  • Lecture 2 - Dialogues between Spain and South American.The contributions of the original indigenous traditions and heritage of African slaves brought to America.

Wednesday 24th. of Febraury  / Europa and Asia

 

  • Lecture 3 - The colonial music in Old Goa, one asleep heritage waiting to be rediscovered.

 

  • Symposium meetings / Papers and Presentations

 

  • Lecture 4 - Dialogues between Portugal and India; the legacy of the portuguese sound.

Thursday 25th of Febraury  / The Jesuits.
